Introducing Loudoun OB/GYN & Midwives! With privileges to accept obstetric and gynecology patients at both StoneSprings Hospital Center and also the Natural Birth Center and Birthing Inn of INOVA Loudoun Hospital, we are excited to introduce the integration of our new Midwifery team.

Our Nurse-Midwives offer holistic and medically balanced care to our patients.
Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses who have a Master’s degree in nursing and specialize in women’s health and midwifery care.  Our specially chosen midwives truly believe in the Midwifery Model of Care throughout the lifespan. In order to practice safely and competently, certified Nurse-Midwives have not only passed a national certification exam, but are also  licensed by the state of Virginia. Our midwifery team is set apart in that they believe in  providing outstanding care and services balanced between holistic and medical care. Our midwives have chosen to work within a collaborative care environment where physicians and midwives cohesively work together to ensure excellence in care is maintained with the well being of our patient population in mind.

Alongside our talented Nurse Practitioner, Lynn Andrews-Chance, NP, the midwives of Loudoun OB/GYN provide a wide range of healthcare services for women;  from a teenager’s first period,
conception counseling, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, while extending into menopause. In Virginia, certified nurse midwives are licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing, and are independent health care providers who can prescribe a full range medications and treatments.  With their commitment to evidence based-practice, advanced education, and focus on partnering with women in their care, they are among the most compassionate, forward-thinking health professionals in the United States today. In Northern Virginia, find the finest in Midwifery at Loudoun OB/GYN!

Midwives Model of Care™ Is Woman-Centered

(excerpted from the Midwives Alliance of North America, mana.org/about-midwives/midwifery-model)

The Midwives Model of Care™ is a fundamentally different approach to pregnancy and childbirth than contemporary obstetrics. Midwifery care is uniquely nurturing, hands-on care before, during, and after birth. Midwives are health care professionals specializing in pregnancy and childbirth who develop a trusting relationship with their clients, which results in confident, supported labor and birth. While there are different types of midwives practicing in various settings, all midwives are trained to provide comprehensive prenatal care and education, guide labor and birth, address complications, and care for newborns. The Midwives Model of Care™ is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events.

The Midwives Model of Care includes:
  • monitoring the physical, psychological and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • minimizing technological interventions and
  • identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention.

The application of this model has been proven to reduce to incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.

Midwifery: Holistic Obstetric Care in Practice

High Risk Pregnancy

Certified Nurse Midwives are known to use less medical intervention during pregnancy and birth. At times, complications may arise during a pregnancy or birth. Our Certified Nurse Midwives are  trained to collaborate on the same care team with our physicians in order to appropriately co-manage these situations. With Loudoun OB/GYN, there is always a physician you know and trust available for consultation or co-care for higher risk conditions. Our midwives can remain an essential part of deliveries that traditional midwives would have to avoid due to being high risk. Without the need to completely transfer care to an unknown provider, our practice is able to fully support the needs of all of our clients.

"With Woman"

The true origin of the word midwife means “with woman”. The Midwifery Model of Care incorporates a uniquely nurturing, hands-on approach to pregnancy and childbirth. Midwives develop a trusting, low intervention relationship with clients that indelibly results in more holistic care. The philosophy of care focuses on the physical, psychological, and social well-being of clients. Providing education and being active listeners are the cornerstone of the midwifery model of care. Use of the Midwifery Model of Care has been statistically shown to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section. Our midwives have the ability to operate both in a natural birth center setting or in the labor & delivery unit of the hospital.

Holistic Care

Foundations of Midwifery

Midwives are known to have relatively more time to answer all of your questions while helping you to better understand the plethora of physical and emotional changes you may experience throughout pregnancy and even after. Our midwives can further assist you in deciding what your optimal birth experience ideally should look like for you and your partner. She will undoubtedly offer you unbiased care and support no matter your choice in how to birth. Whether you choose an unmedicated birth or an epidural, she can provide you with superior care in either situation.
The goal of the midwifery model of care is to support women and their families in the process of birthing their babies safely, unhindered and with confidence. Every woman deserves access to the high quality, safe, personalized, attentive, affordable, and respectful care of  our Certified Nurse Midwives. The care received from a midwife can be empowering for a woman in various stages of her lifespan. Globally, about eighty percent of people have been born with the care and attention of a midwife present. Understandably, the countries with the lowest mortality and morbidity rates for mothers and infants are those in which midwifery is a valued and integral pillar of the maternity care system.
